Kargil Vijay Diwas 2020 - Every year, Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26 July. On this day in 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts which was lost to Pakistani intruders. Kargil war was fought for more than 60 days and was ended on 26 July which resulted in loss of many lives. Kargil Vijay Diwas 21th Anniversary 2020
On 26 July 1999, the flame of Kargil Vijay is taken from New Delhi to Kargil-Dras sector for the 527 martyrs of Operation Vijay and the brave soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for the country. This Vijay flame reaches the Kargil War Memorial via 11 cities. President of the country Ram Nath Kovind and Army Chief General Narvane will be present in the Kargil-Dras sector to take this victory flame. There will be a garbage feast. Kargil will prepare 'Tiranga Kheer' at the 'Barakhana' (grand dinner) to be held in the war zone for the families of martyrs, serving soldiers to pay special tribute to the heroes of the war. Army veterans will also be present here. Meanwhile, the leading actors of Bollywood will also be present.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that he will speak to the people of the country in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on July 26. Last year, PM Modi had said that the day should be remembered for the “courage, bravery, and dedication” shown by the soldiers who took part in Operation Vijay.
Under ‘Operation Vijay’, the Indian government had mobilized two lakh troops. In the Kargil War, 527 soldiers from the Indian Armed Forces sacrificed their lives. The Kargil War Memorial, built by the Indian Army, is located in Dras, about five kilometers from the Tiger Hill.
India, on July 7, remembered Captain Vikram Batra, the Kargil War hero, on his 21st death anniversary. Captain Vikram Batra sacrificed his life fighting Pakistani forces during the Kargil War. At the age of 24, Captain Batra became the face of the Indian soldier at Kargil, whose words reverberate even today – ‘Yeh Dil Maange More..’ The soldier took this advertising slogan and elevated it to a motto for life.
Another Kargil War hero, Captain K Nachiketa, was captured by the soldiers of the Pakistani Northern Light Infantry during the Kargil War. He was brutally beaten and tortured. The fighter pilot had been assigned the task of hitting Pakistani posts in Kargil at altitudes in excess of 17,000 feet.
